Having all your data at a glance is powerful—but meaningful analysis often requires narrowing in on specific time frames. Whether you want to evaluate recent performance, compare periods, or understand long-term trends, RetentionX allows you to customize date ranges across most reports.
By adjusting the date range, you control which data is included in the analysis and how it is aggregated, ensuring your insights are always relevant to the question you’re trying to answer.
How to Change Date Ranges
When you change the date range in a report, you are defining two things:
The time period that should be analyzed
The grouping level used to aggregate the data within that period
Both settings directly influence how trends, changes, and performance developments are displayed.
Grouping: How Your Data is Aggregated
The Grouping setting determines how data points are combined over time. This allows you to control the level of detail in your analysis.
Shorter date ranges work best with finer groupings (e.g. days), while longer time spans are usually easier to interpret with monthly or yearly aggregation. Grouping options include:
Day
Best for short time frames or when you need to closely monitor day-to-day changes, such as during campaigns, launches, or promotions.Week
Useful for identifying short-term trends while reducing daily volatility. Weekly grouping is often used to evaluate ongoing performance or operational changes.Month
Ideal for identifying broader trends and smoothing out daily fluctuations. This is commonly used for performance reviews and strategic analysis.Quarter
Helps you assess medium-term performance and compare results across quarters, which is especially useful for planning and goal tracking.Half Year
Provides a high-level view of performance over longer periods and is helpful for identifying structural changes or shifts in customer behavior.Year
Best suited for long-term evaluations, year-over-year comparisons, and understanding how your business evolves over time.
Time Period: Which Dates Are Included
The Time Period defines the actual date range that RetentionX uses to calculate and display your data. You have two options:
- Predefined Date Ranges
Choose from common, ready-to-use periods such as:
- Last 30 days
- Last 12 months
- This year
These predefined ranges should cover most of your use cases and are perfect for quick checks and recurring analyses, ensuring consistency across reports and over time.
- Custom Date Ranges
Select a specific start and end date to analyze an exact period—such as a campaign window, seasonal phase, or promotional event.
This is especially helpful when you want to:
Review performance before and after a change
Analyze a specific marketing initiative
Align reports with external reporting periods
