You're just setting up RetentionX's Merchandise Optimization? That's amazing, and we're just as excited as you are to see the first data and our auto-sorting go live for your Shopify store!
To track the performance of your products within your collections, we will enhance your Google Analytics tracking with additional data points. These are used to evaluate the effectiveness of your products relative to their placement, and ultimately to calculate a performance score by which to sort your products. For this, we'll create a new GA4 property within your GA4 account to ensure we can push the data in the format needed, but also to avoid duplicating data in existing properties.
If you receive an error message indicating that no new Google Analytics 4 property could be created, please read on to troubleshoot the problem.
Check User Permissions
In order to create a new GA4 property, it's important that the user connecting RetentionX to Google Analytics has permission to create new properties. If this is not the case, you'll receive the following error message:
Please check if you have at least Editor (or even Administrator) rights for the GA4 account—it’s not sufficient to have admin rights for just a property. To quickly check if you have the necessary rights to connect, follow these steps:
-
- Sign in to your Google Analytics 4 account
- Navigate to Admin
- Click Create > Property
If you do not have the option to create a new property, please contact your GA4 account owner or admin to either change your permissions or ask them to connect RetentionX to Google Analytics themselves.
Grant RetentionX all Permissions
Was RetentionX granted all necessary rights?
When connecting your GA4 account to RetentionX, you will be prompted to grant RetentionX all necessary permissions—it's important to select all permissions:
If this is not the case, you'll receive the following error message:
In this case it's best to delete the integration from Integrations & Automations > Google Analytics and start the connection process again.
We're here to help! Just send us a message with your questions to success@retentionx.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
