With RetentionX, you can sync segment information to your Shopify store by automatically tagging customers based on their current segment membership. This ensures that Shopify always reflects the latest customer state without requiring manual updates or static lists. Customers are tagged when they qualify for the segment and untagged as soon as they no longer meet the criteria.
Using customer tags, you can tailor the shopping experience based on customer behavior and value—for example by showing VIP customers selected products, granting early access to promotions, or lowering free-shipping thresholds for high-value shoppers.
How to Push Segment Affiliation to Shopify
To get started, open Automations → Data Enhancer in RetentionX.
Select Shopify and click Set up.
You’ll be redirected to Shopify and asked to log in.
Approve the app by clicking Update app, allowing RetentionX to edit customer profiles.
-
Back in RetentionX, select the segment whose membership information should be synced to Shopify.
By default, only one segment's membership information can be synced to Shopify per account. If you need to reflect multiple segments in Shopify or are planning a more advanced tagging strategy, reach out to us at success@retentionx.com—we're happy to help. Confirm your selection by clicking Create.
Once the automation is active, RetentionX starts syncing segment membership information to Shopify automatically. The customer tag will match the segment name used in RetentionX and will include the prefix [RX.Segment ID].
RetentionX creates and updates your customer tags overnight, and you’ll find them directly in the Shopify customer profile the next morning. After that:
Customers who belong to the selected segment receive a corresponding Shopify customer tag
Customers are untagged as soon as they leave the segment
Segment membership is recalculated daily, keeping all customer tags up to date
This ensures that Shopify always reflects the current status of your customers, even as their behavior changes over time.
Monitoring the Shopify Data Enhancer
After setup, you can monitor the status of the profile enhancement directly in RetentionX. The Shopify card shows when the last sync was executed and how many customer tags were updated. This gives you clear visibility into whether the automation is active and how many customer profiles were affected by the latest update.
