Highly effective email marketing and automation rely on understanding who your customers are and where they are in their journey. By connecting ActiveCampaign with RetentionX, you can enrich your contact profiles with deep customer insights and use them to drive smarter segmentation, automation, and messaging.
RetentionX syncs customer insights directly into ActiveCampaign as custom contact fields. These fields update automatically, allowing you to create dynamic segments and trigger personalized campaigns based on real customer behavior—without manual exports or static lists.
How to Sync Properties to ActiveCampaign
To get started, you'll first need your ActiveCampaign API URL and API Key, which are required to authorize the connection.
- Log in to your ActiveCampaign account and navigate to Settings → Developer.
- Under API Access, copy both the API URL and API Key.
Next, open Automations → Data Enhancer in RetentionX.
Select ActiveCampaign and click Set Up.
Select Authorize ActiveCampaign.
Paste your API URL and API Key into the corresponding fields.
Select the customer fields you’d like to sync to ActiveCampaign.
Confirm your selection by clicking Create.
Once the automation is active, RetentionX creates new custom contact fields in ActiveCampaign under General Details. Each field matches the RetentionX field name and includes the prefix [RX], making RetentionX data easy to recognize inside ActiveCampaign.
By default, RetentionX adds and updates customer data overnight, and you'll find the new properties directly in ActiveCampaign profiles the next morning. From that point on:
New properties are automatically created when you add additional fields to the enhancer settings
Customer data is recalculated daily, keeping all property values up to date
This allows you to segment customers based on long-term value, purchase behavior, churn risk, or other RetentionX insights—and use those segments across campaigns and automations.
How to Create RX-Based Segments in ActiveCampaign
Once RetentionX insights are available in ActiveCampaign, you can start creating segments based on them.
In ActiveCampaign, navigate to Contacts > Segments.
Define your segment conditions and select the desired RetentionX field from Custom Contact Fields.
Specify the value you want to match.
Using RetentionX insights inside ActiveCampaign allows you to move beyond basic engagement signals and build automations based on customer quality, intent, and lifecycle stage. This leads to more relevant communication, better timing, and stronger performance across your email campaigns and flows.
Monitoring the ActiveCampaign Data Enhancer
After setup, you can monitor the status of the ActiveCampaign Profile Enhancer directly in RetentionX. The ActiveCampaign card shows when the last sync was executed and how many profiles were updated during that run. This gives you clear visibility into whether the automation is active and the scale of updates.
