RetentionX can dynamically sort your products based on their performance, ensuring that high performing products get the visibility they deserve. After enabling and setting up Merchandise Optimization for your Shopify store, you can turn on automation for individual collections. Additionally, you have the flexibility to create custom sorting rules that can override performance scores, helping you optimize your collection pages both strategically and based on performance.
RetentionX offers three sorting rule options. Let's explore how each option works and how to set them up:
Demote products based on inventory
RetentionX identifies your most enticing, high-converting and profit-driving products and dynamically sorts them to make more money from your traffic. However, you may not want products with low inventory to be prominently featured. RetentionX gives you the ability to demote products based on their stock levels.
To set up inventory-based sorting rules that apply across all your collections, navigate to the general settings:
You have two options for configuring these rules, which can also be combined:
-
Based on stock
Set an inventory threshold that will move products to the bottom of the collection page. For example, if you set a threshold of "2", any product with less than two in stock will be moved to the last position on the collection page, regardless of its performance. This quantity reflects all available items of all variants of the product.
-
Based on variant availability
Determine how many variants of the product should be available to get promoted. For example, if a product has 30 SKUs in stock, but only one of five sizes is available, it may still make sense to downgrade the product. You can set a threshold for the percentage of variants that should remain available. For example, if you set the threshold to 30% for a product with 10 variants, the product will be demoted to the bottom of the collection page if fewer than 3 variants are in stock.
Pin specific products
When running promotions or featuring specific products, you may want to manually control their placement on your collection page. RetentionX allows you to pin individual products to a specific position.
To pin a product, click the pin icon that appears when you hover over a product in the product overview of a collection.
You can then specify the exact position for the pinned product on the collection page. Keep in mind that pinning a product overrides performance scores and new arrival boosts, but it does not outrank inventory sorting rules.
Boost new arrivals
New products need to get attention, but since they lack performance data initially, they might end up at the bottom of the collection page. To avoid this, you can choose to promote new arrivals – for each collection individually.
RetentionX automatically detects when a product is published to your Shopify store and marks it as new. In the collection settings, you can specify both the position and the duration for which these new products should be promoted.
Any changes to your settings will automatically take effect the next day, or you can manually re-sync your product sorting for all collections by clicking Re-Sync.
